Housesitting Melbourne

The place to be

Benny - Benny - Benny
What a dog!!!

cute cocker spaniel pictures of Benny We spent a whole six weeks housesitting Melbourne in style with this totally stunning cocker spaniel in Templestowe and loved every minute. He just ozzes personality every moment of the day. He is capable of changing moods in a heartbeat – from soft and cuddly on the couch with you – to wanting to be chased around the garden – to standing guard on the verandah. We really did get a lot of pleasure spending time with him.

Benny also had infected anal glands and was on antibiotics so we had a few trips to the Vet to check up on his progress. He just loves the Vet and it was hilarious to see just how much he strained on the lead trying to race into the reception area when we got close. Even though he must have had some idea what they were going to do to him when he got inside but couldn’t get there fast enough to say hello.

We spent Christmas there and got him a toy Santa from the Vet’s which he really did like, we gave it all wrapped up and he ripped into the paper and spent the whole day with it.

There were also two guinea pigs called Caramel and Toffee, this was our very first encounter with guinea pigs so it was interesting to learn more about them. They had a wonderful cage setup and were very comfortable in there. We let them out on the lawn on the cooler days and they really did love that and spent most of the time eating grass.

how to grow spinach I started a spinach garden for them and that seemed to be growing quite well by the time we left. They certainly love spinach and it would be so much easier to grow your own.

At times the weather was too hot so we moved them inside for the air conditioning which they loved. I think they were really curious to see what was going on inside the house as they spent most of their time just watching everything we did.

We also had a wonderful day wandering around Monsalvaat which is only about ten minutes from the house. I have never been before and it was always on my ‘to do’ list. It is a truly stunning place and we highly recommend it to anyone in Melbourne as a great day out. I have some lovely photos here if you would like to see them. It feels like you are in Europe wandering around a lovely village.

When his family returned home his excitement was wonderful to see, he just leaped from one family member to another the whole time greeting each one over and over. Even though he was happy with us it was obvious his heart really belongs to his family.

He has been a wonderful host, we enjoyed our time with Benny and would love to see him again. He is full of personality and curiosity. He lives ‘with’ you totally as an equal member of the household and follows everywhere you go. He is a joy to be with.

Update: Three months after we left I went to visit Benny for a few hours and he did remember me which was wonderful. He is off the antibiotics and is on the road to recovery. We have been invited back and because of Benny it makes our house sitting jobs such a joy.

"Dear Robyn & Tony,
Thank you once again for taking such good care of our home and of course our precious dog Benny and our guinea pigs! I know Benny thoroughly enjoyed being pampered by both of you and especially having your undivided attention.

For us it was a novel experience to go away and not worry about Benny the entire trip. We did miss him terribly and were so grateful for the updates and photos via email.

Thanks for looking after Benny’s medical needs, including visits and phone calls to the vet. The list does go on- as I do have to mention the home cooked veg in his diet which I know he loved.

As mentioned to you on the phone we are sure if Benny could borrow our GPS he would come looking for you each time we push him off our bed!

And finally thank you for stocking up our fridge with milk, fruit and veg and also for the lovely flowers in each of our bedrooms...all wonderful thoughtful gestures which we truly appreciated very much.

We will be happy to provide references for you in the future if required- please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am happy for you to either post this letter or portions of it if you prefer, on your web site.

Look forward to catching up with you again- I know Benny will be happy to see you.
Warm Regards
Nim and family - Templestowe - Victoria"
